This yard has at least four distinct plant types or zones that need irrigation: large shrubs, small shrubs, flower bed and vegetable row garden. Ideally, you would want each specific zone and emitter type to be controlled by its own valve to accurately manage the duration and frequency of irrigation. Often times that is not possible and we have to create control zones comprised of similar water needs. For example, consider combining zones that need to be irrigated daily with areas that can tolerate frequent waterings. You might be able to consolidate flowers in a heavily shady area with trees that need irrigating only every 3 or 4 days.
